NCWS Highlights Release of New Statewide Nursing Workforce Dashboard
Massachusetts has long faced challenges in accessing timely, reliable nursing workforce data, a barrier that has made it difficult for policymakers, educators, and employers to fully understand and respond to workforce needs.
To help address this gap, the state has released the Integrated Nursing Dashboard, now publicly available at:
This new dashboard brings together high‑value nursing workforce indicators in one location, offering clearer insight into trends across the Commonwealth.
NCWS Data Committee Leadership
The NCWS Data & Research Committee has been a driving force behind efforts to improve the accuracy and availability of Massachusetts nursing workforce data. Their work has included:
-
Identifying and elevating key data needs within the nursing workforce, particularly as the state continues to experience shortages and rapid shifts in workforce demographics.
-
Influencing the collection and publication of more accurate data, ensuring stakeholders have the information necessary to make informed decisions.
-
Partnering with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing to strengthen and modernize the state’s nursing license renewal survey. This includes updating survey questions to better capture factors such as practice setting, workforce transitions, and demographic characteristics—elements critical for understanding real-time nursing workforce trends.
These collaborative updates are already improving the quality of Massachusetts nursing workforce data and supporting evidence‑based planning across healthcare sectors.
A New Chapter for Nursing Workforce Transparency
The launch of the Integrated Nursing Dashboard marks an important step forward for the Commonwealth. With improved data collection, stronger interagency partnerships, and NCWS leadership, Massachusetts is better positioned to understand workforce challenges — and to build a more stable, equitable, and sustainable nursing workforce for the future.
