History

The Nursing Council on Workforce Sustainability (NCWS) was created in 2021 out of the work of the Massachusetts Healthcare Collaborative Nursing Task Force with ForHealth Consulting at UMass Chan Medical School, the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services, and the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

ForHealth Consulting manages the NCWS by bringing together key stakeholders from across Massachusetts who are focused on creating a diverse, collaborative, and robust statewide nursing workforce.

The NCWS consists of nursing and non-nursing member organizations that address nursing workforce challenges. The NCWS was designed to strengthen the resilience of the healthcare system and is a critical part of a statewide effort to address the growing nursing shortage crisis.

Mission, Vision, and Values  

The NCWS mission is to convene key stakeholders to provide innovative solutions, inform policy, and make evidence-based decisions that ensure health equity by building a resilient and sustainable nursing workforce focused on improving the health and well-being of the commonwealth. 

The NCWS vision is to pioneer the future of a sustainable, diverse, and inclusive nursing workforce by incorporating the following values:
